As a HCandF Industry ambassador, you'll have the opportunity to give back to the filmmaking community by occasionally commenting on a filmmaker's work. Leilani Downer is an industry veteran whom for years has worked as a successful writer, director and producer in Hollywood. Having worked on TV productions such as The Fresh Prince Prince of Bel Air, Growing Pains, and Different world, Leilani is currently writing for Netflix. Leilani truly enjoys working with up and coming filmmakers while helping them hone their skills.
Emerging Artist Program Ambassadors are successful artists in Hollywood who want to give back to the film industry by providing feedback for short films. Interacting with Ambassadors is a great way for filmmakers to broaden their professional network while staying attuned to employment and collaboration opportunities. .
Shawn Christensen graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Illustration and Graphic Design. After graduating, he formed indie rock band Stellastarr* and, while on tour, wrote and sold many screenplays, including Sidney Hall (Fox Searchlight) and Karma Coalition (Warner Bros.). Stellastarr* released two albums on RCA Records and a third album, independently. In 2011, Christensen's short film, Brink, was an Official Selection of the Tribeca Film Festival and won "Best Festival Film of the Year" by ShortOfTheWeek.com. In 2012, his short film, Curfew, won over 40 awards in Film Festivals before winning the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film at the 85th Academy Awards.
Brody Gusar is a film editor and director best known for his work on the feature films Cheap Thrills, Starry Eyes, and The Next Big Thing. He lives in Los Angeles, California and is still making movies.
Rick Reyna has worked with actors like Derek Luke (Antoine Fisher) and Eric Roberts (The Rally). Rick is a director and writer, known for The Rally (2010), The Rally-LA (2016) and The Call (Answered) (2016).
Matt Chassin is an award winning producer/publicist/talent manager. He has been mentoring filmmaker for over 20 years. He has over 35 film credits, and has produced more than 20. Matt can also offer advice to filmmakers in the areas of marketing and distribution.
Dennis is the owner of Dia'ani Media and co-owner of Legion M Entertainment. He has worked as an executive in the entertainment industry for over a decade with experience extending more than double the time. Some of the most recent projects Dennis has been involved in include the TV show "Celebration of Music", along with films under Legion M, Marvel, and Fox Searchlight Pictures. .
Nick De Luca is a graduate from the Motion Pictures and Television program at the Academy of Art University. Since graduating, he has worked in nearly all aspects of television and film production while working under and alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest names, as both co-workers and mentors. Some of Nick’s work has been featured in festivals across the country and he is currently working on his next film as well as developing a show as part of the Directing Program at Second City Hollywood. Nick believes he would not have the success he currently enjoys without the help of his mentors and is committed to helping others in the same way.
Jason K. Garrett is owner of Invulnerable Entertainment whose main focus is to bring compelling stories of under represented voices to all three screens. Mobile, TV and Box Office. Jason is an accomplished writer having worked in the industry for over Ten years as a screenwriter, producer and director. Recently Jason has had a series optioned by Amazon Studios, a short film accepted into the Las Vegas Global Film Festival, has a full length feature in pre-production, has just been hired on to produce a video for an up an coming R&B act and is working with MC Eight and Compton’s Most Wanted on a short film to promote their comeback album.
Rob is a produced, award-winning screenwriter, published novelist, former motion picture development executive, and author of two screenwriting books (“The Screenwriting Formula” and “How to Write High Structure, High Concept Movies.”) as well as screenwriting DVDs. He is featured in the book "The Top 50 Indie Writers in The World" by Del Weston, Theresa Weston, and Nabi Zee.
Carol-Marie is a costume designer, producer, and stylist that has relocated to Los Angeles from NYC. She came with the intent and pursuit of networking, finding great people to work with, working full time in film and becoming union. She has worked with companies including Toshiba, MTV3, Vogue Italia, Fault Magazine, PBS Network, and Broadway’s Memphis Musical. Previous clients include Karmin, Sleepy Rebels, Aaron Carter, Anna Demidova from Dancing with the Stars, Comedy Central’s Kyle Grooms, and the USA Mens Olympic Epee Team. .
Carol Marie Sneed
Shadow Dragu-Mihai is a producer-director with over 20 years in the film industry. He began professional life as a jazz trumpet player. He then became an entertainment attorney, and currently works series, features and short productions, as well as unscripted projects, as producer, supervising producer, or line producer. Shadow's broad production experience covers cinematography, visual and special effects, directing, live theatre, editing and more. He works ULB through several millions in budget. Shadow is an award-winning director, and his work covers comedy, action, thriller, horror and more. Currently, Shadow is in preparation on two of his own feature films, and is launching monthly film production seminars.
Tess Middlebrook began acting in New York City in 2007. A chef in her former life, you can see Tess on the Food Network’s Hit Series “CHOPPED”. While cooking professionally in New York, Tess wrote and produced her one woman show entitled American Flavored Dumb; the show explored a myriad of American women with inflated egos and low IQ’s, YEAH, AMURICA! Since moving out to Los Angeles Tess has written a web-series called Hillbrook Gardens. Gardens is Lisa Kudrow’s The Comeback meets Parks and Recreation. Tess booked a role at the Webby Award-winning Good Mythical Morning with Rhett and Link – the #1 streamed show on YouTube Originals with over 15 million subscribers. While on Good Mythical Morning Tess had the privilege of acting in more than 30 episodes for their season 13 roll out and produced over 120 episodes of food related content. Tess graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hunter College with a BA in Theater.
After starting his career writing comedies like AIRHEADS, Wilkes created the “xXx” spy franchise starring Vin Diesel. His latest feature film is the Motley Crue biopic the “THE DIRT” for Netflix.
After traveling back and forth between home in New Jersey and auditions in Los Angeles, Phillips caught his big break in 1991, landing a role on Guiding Light, and earning a daytime Emmy Award nomination and Soap Opera Digest Awards nomination. He then landed the role of Kevin Marshall in the soap opera, As the World Turns and had a recurring role as Whip Morgan in the series, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. In 1996, Phillips was cast in the film, Independence Day. He then appeared in a number of television shows such as High Tide, Pacific Blue and Pensacola: Wings of Gold before landing recurring roles in Another World and ER. From 2002-2007, Phillips made appearances on television shows, including Fastlane, The Handler, Third Watch and CSI: Miami. In 2010, Phillips was cast in a recurring role as Nick Pearson, in the soap opera, All My Children. Later, while transitioning his acting career, Phillips developed a personal dedication to fitness, shifting attention to fitness training. His first client was Eileen Ryan Penn, mother of Sean Penn, inspiring him to expand his company and build his clientele by word of mouth, specifically through the contacts he had acquired through his acting career. Jeff's training methods are influenced by Tony Norton, Gunther Peterson, and Tracey Anderson, using a combination of resistance training, yoga, and cardiovascular conditioning. Jeff Phillips Fitness is based in Los Angeles, California, and includes an extensive client list including top Hollywood agents, managers, publicists, executives, and actors such as Joanna Cassidy, Emily Osment, Michelle Stafford, and Daniel Davis.
